This is an epic 3hr 30 minute SUNRISE set
recorded 30 minutes before sunrise in Guatemala for a SomaSoundSystem
FullMoon/Lunar Eclipse Party. The loaction was spectacular. Overlooking the
huge Lake of Lago Atitlan surrounded by volcanoes, including the smoking Volcano
Fuego! The set began at twilight and over 30 minutes broke into spectacular
surise as seen in the photos below.

DJ Soma (UK) started organizing and mixing
at Full moon tribal gatherings back in 1996 in the world famous and sacred
archeological Mayan zone of Palenque, Mexico. Set in the lush jungles and
magical temple environment during many full moons (20+), DJ Soma would bring
shamanic electronic beats to Mexicans and the international backpackers' community
in some totally crazy full moon parties. Sometimes guest speakers would open
the show such as Terence McKenna and Jonathan Ott.
DJ Soma had previously been producing live
and studio work under the name Divine
Soma Experience/Experiment playing the UK London/Brighton underground
scene, squat parties and free festivals since 1990. Several albums have been

However during Soma's world travels back in
the mid 90's and before the advent of laptop studios (when it was impossible
to travel with the old analogue studio gear), Soma decided to play with just
pre recorded music (CD's,DATs, Minidisks, Vinyl) . this was due to the need
to spread shamanic beats across the globe, unfortunately limited to the realms
of just DJ-ing and not live as had been in the past (in the UK and Europe).
However his totally unique sound and energy
was soon deeply appreciated and within a year was in much demand on the international
backpackers scene in Mexico and Guatemala. So much was the demand and the
need for people to experience the Full moon tribal electro gatherings, DJ
Soma (1999) decided to invest in his own sound system equipment, lighting,
transport, generator power, decoration to form a truly independent Sound system,
capable of accessing into the deep jungles, sacred mayan sites, caves, deserts,
private beaches, sacred mountains etc off the beaten track. Taking the experience
into the most (secret) beautiful and sacred locations in Central America one
can imagine. This experience is called the SomaSoundSystem.
The SomaSoundSystem
organizes unique tribal gatherings at secret locations in Mexico & Guatemala.
This mix of Audio Alchemy, a combination of old and new tools of shamanism...

would celebrate its events at sacred sites in Mexico and Guatemala such as
on Mayan Temples, Cenotes, Volcanoes, Lakes, Waterfalls, Jungles and Deserts.
DJ Soma would be the principle DJ for these
events that would host international DJ's, Live Acts, VJ's, and Fireperfomers
from all over the globe.
Since 1998, DJ Soma has been invited to play
all over the world from the high tech clubs of Japan to the squat parties
of London... From the lakeshores of Geneva Switzerland to the deserts of the
Burningman festival in Nevada USA... From the crazy full moon parties at Koh-Phangan
thailand to the beautiful beaches and islands in BC Canada...
DJ Soma's unique freestyle sound evolved as
a result from playing such a diverse range of outdoor locations around the
world. The need to entertain, but also to enlighten the audience on a shamanic
level.
DJ Soma is in his element during the sunrise
period....when the environment evolves so shall his sounds and the minds of
this listeners.
DJ Soma can mix a wide range of styles from
Breakbeat, Techno, DigiDub, Tribal, Drum N Bass Ambient, Experimental, World
Groove...
However his 2 best and most original styles
are when he is mixing his unique evening freestyle mix of acidy, tribal, breakbeat,
drum n bass, funky techno or the sunrise set at outdoor locations, a blend
of tribal, ethnic, psychedelic trance with hints of breaks, dub and drum n
bass.
